The air pollution in Delhi, India before and after.
COVID-19 has been a very big issue for the entire world as many major countries like the United States, England, China, France, Italy, etc, have gone into a lockdown where all citizens are meant to stay indoors at all times. This situation has been very stressful for everyone. There have been some positives that have come from this quarantine. One main problem that has been the main issue for many countries is air pollution. During the lockdown, transportation has been limited and factories have been shut down. This has led to a tremendous decrease in carbon emissions in countries such as China, India, Italy, and the United States. NO2 emissions that come from cars, planes, and factories are responsible for most deaths caused by air pollution. Since the decrease in NO2 emissions, there have been an estimated amount of 50,000 lives saved that would have been lost to air pollution. Quarantine may be very boring and difficult but the world is healing from years of poor air quality and hopefully this healing can continue even after the pandemic.

Quarantine is a new experience for everyone. Everyone has to be separated from those not in lockdown with them like friends and some family. This pandemic is devastating but cannot break humanity’s spirit as people have found creative ways to have fun with friends while maintaining COVID-19 guidelines by social distancing. Italy in particular has found clever ways to have fun while social distancing. One instance was a live DJ concert. One man started to DJ from his balcony in his apartment as he gained an audience from the surrounding apartments. People started to cheer and clap as it was a night filled with music and fun while also staying safe. Another instance was people started to sing from their balcony in their apartment complex. Soon, the entire complex started to sing in unison. People started to use pans for a beat as everyone was on their balcony singing. Even in times like these, it is still possible to have fun as a community while also following the COVID-19 guidelines.

COVID-19 has taken a toll on people by preventing everyone from meeting in person, due to quarantine. Other routes have opened up to maintain the human connection with friends and family. People started to use Google Hangouts, Skype, Facetime, and the most famous platform right now is Zoom. Zoom is the epicenter for many events such as online school and work meetings. It is also being used to bring everyone closer as many people are having online family reunions and calls with their friends. It is also being used as a platform for entertainment. Many talk shows have switched to a Zoom type format such as Jimmy Fallon, James Corden, and Jimmy Kimmel. It has brought us many musical performances as well. Some artists were the cast of Hamilton, the cast of Mamma Mia, Dua Lipa, and Metallica to name a few. It has also brought us reunions of famous TV shows such as Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Community, Vampire Diaries, and The Office. Zoom is connecting everyone together and giving us moments that would never have happened otherwise. It was the savior we never knew we needed.
